Day 1 of the 2013 Outdoor Education Trip
The Dining Hall at Happy Hollow. Arrival: Unloading a large amount of gear. Arrival: Lining it up neatly on the ground so the campers can easily look through it. Arrival: Most of the gear is out and ready for the campers. Arrival: What a long line of gear for the campers to look through. Rules in the Dining Hall: We have a very large group of campers this year and we fill the dining hall. Lake Lilly: Lake Lilly is very high this year due to a beaver that has jammed up a spillway. Lake Lilly: Lake Lilly: This is the pump being used to try to lower the lake's water level. Obstacle Course: The new Obstacle Course. Obstacle Course: Mrs. Burgher shows her approval by doing the Superstar pose. Obstacle Course: The campers on the balance beam. The object was for them all to pick their feet off the ground without falling backwards. Obstacle Course: This station is called Obstacle Course: The object is to get everyone through the grid without touching the rope more than seven times. Obstacle Course: Obstacle Course: Obstacle Course: This obstacle is called the Rope Swing. Obstacle Course: Campers must swing across a large area without touching the ground. Obstacle Course: Ummmm....fail! :) Obstacle Course: Ms. Burson attempts part of the Adventure Course. Obstacle Course: Balance is the key to the entire course. Potential and Kinetic Energy: The students learn about potential and kinetic energy by rolling different sized marbles down an incline plane. Potential and Kinetic Energy: They then discuss Sir Isaac Newton's First Law of Motion. Potential and Kinetic Energy: They do this by hitting a pie pan causing it to zip out from the cardboard tube allowing the egg to fall into the glass of water. Potential and Kinetic Energy: Mr. Zink gets the campers set up to try the activity. Potential and Kinetic Energy: The campers take turns trying to knock the egg into the glass. Campfire: The piece of burnt wood was from last years campfire. Campfire: He explains that by dropping that piece of wood into the fire that they are now tied to the past 16 years of campers. Campfire: The campers enjoy the campfire. Bandana or Banana? Mrs. Pinnick teaches the campers the different uses for a bandana. Bandana or Banana?:  Mrs. Renneker thought she said to wipe her face with the banana. Bandana or Banana?: She also thought she should clean her ear with the banana. Bandana or Banana?: Mrs. Pinnick shows the campers how to wear the bandana as a hat? Bandana or Banana?: Mrs. Renneker thinks she is supposed to  use the banana to clean between her toes. Bandana or Banana?: The campers enjoyed watching Mrs.Pinnick and Mrs. Renneker. Bandana or Banana?: Mrs. Pinnick finally realizes that Mrs. Renneker was using a banana instead of a bandana. Campfire: Mr. Schmidt asks the campers questions about things they learned today. Campfire: The camper that got the answer correct could pick out a box of candy.
