Joint Resolution

School Community Members:

We felt it important to share this information with our entire School Community as it impacts all families with students in public schools.  At last night's meeting, the NH School Board and the NH Classroom Teachers Association joined together in a Joint Resolution in opposition to HB 1005, SB 412, and SB 413.  These bills are currently being debated in our state legislature.   Our specific concern is tax dollars being redirected from public schools and shifted to private schools.  Our joint statement is attached.

Additionally:

--90% of Indiana students attend public schools, 10% private schools.

--In 2019-20, the state spent 172 million dollars on vouchers for private schools.

--The proposed two year House budget increase for all schools is 378 million dollars, of which 144 million would go to private schools--for 10% of students.

--Median income for an Indiana family of 4 is $90,654.

--Voucher eligibility under this proposal for a family of 4 increases to $145,410 by 2023.
