Last Friday, Mrs. Wade's classes celebrated "Pi Day"! The students created anemometers as part of their weather unit. They measured the radius of their anemometers in order to calculate the diameter of their anemometer using pi. Students went outside to test them, and they used their data to calculate the wind speed! This activity was an engaging way to integrate a common math formula with a science activity. We were extra lucky today because the weather cooperated and provided us with plenty of wind! Happy Pi Day!

Stop by and visit the NHCS booth at the Spring Job Fair

We look forward to seeing everyone this Friday and we hope you will consider joining us at North Harrison Community Schools!

Mrs. Wade finally tested ALL of her 8th grader's thermal Insulators and have the winners from each class. The insulators that met all the criteria and constraints and that kept her coffee hot for the longest time won. The winners of each class will receive a hot chocolate and cookie party!
For this project students tested and collected data on many different materials to see how well various things work as insulators. They tested newspaper, rubber, aluminum foil, felt, foam, cardboard, tissue paper, and more! After testing and collecting data they created graphs, and then chose 3 materials they tested to design a thermal Insulator. The insulator needed to keep a cup of coffee warm and needed to be removable, reusable, and portable. Using the engineering design process, students worked in groups to design the ultimate insulator. After completing their prototypes, they tested their prototypes, collected more data, and made improvements to their designs. This was an engaging project that allowed students an opportunity to practice graphing and also allowed them to revisit the steps of the engineering design process.

It's National School Counseling Week!
NHMS is truly blessed to have such a wonderful school counselor in Mrs. Sarah Burgher! We want to spotlight her this week for the way she supports, guides, and inspires our students every day. Thank you, Mrs. Burgher! We appreciate all you do for our students and staff!

Today, our 8th graders were excited to welcome Ryan Hoke, a meteorologist from WAVE TV in Louisville, for an engaging presentation about the world of weather. As part of their current weather unit, students had the opportunity to learn firsthand about weather patterns, storm chasing, and safety precautions during severe weather events. Ryan also shared insights into his career, discussing the responsibilities of a meteorologist, the various colleges offering meteorology programs, and how his passion for weather led him to this exciting field. It was an inspiring and informative visit that sparked curiosity and a deeper understanding of the science behind weather!
As an added bonus, Mr. Hoke announced that he will be giving a special shoutout to our students during the 7:30 PM segment tonight on WAVE TV! Be sure to tune in to see some of the photos from his visit.
We are so grateful to Mr. Hoke for taking the time to inspire the next generation of scientists and meteorologists. A huge thanks to Mrs. Wade for setting this up for our students!
